Pink Moon

Blue makes me sad. Pink makes me happy. Tonite's moon is definitely pink.

It's a perfect sliver of a moon. A fingernail. A big ol' man-sized thumbnail. And it's sitting right at the end of the street. Over the stop sign.

The morning and afternoon of my day were pink too. Monday was also pink.

Just the right amount of time w/ my oldest son while The Short One is away at camp ... just for the afternoon. The right amount.

We've swam in incredibly cold water and didn't mind. Biked under enormous rain clouds that didn't drop rain on us. Hiked along muddy paths and ended up w/ none on our shoes.

Our afternoons have just clicked. And what I've learned from spending time w/ someone so very much like me is that we talk and we discuss but we aren't making noise. I seem to be able to hear the sounds of "just us" when we're together.

Noise is breaking up little boy fights, arguments. Noise is whining and disagreeing. Noise is who got to pick out the Popsicles the last time. Noise is Nickelodeon and Gamecube.

I think of the quote from one of my pink-est movies ... to paraphrase ... it's so nice spending time w/ someone you know so well because you don't feel like you have to talk the whole time. You can just sit. (And then they chew their salads.)

We do that. We talk. We don't. It's all pink.
