Today my eldest interviewed ME for a language arts assignment about "living thru" thru 9/11. I'm surprised my memories are so vivid.
My couch was blue.
We were watching Sesame Street. Elmo's World. 8:47 am.
Prior to my eldest coming to me in his footed pajamas to watch Sesame Street, I was watching The Today Show.
(I'm surprised I was awake early enough to watch The Today Show.)
Jack Welch was on ... talking about his new book.
Then, The Tall One rushed back in the front door saying a plane had hit the WTC.
"Turn the channel," he said.
We sat glued.
The second plane hit.
I was sure the world was ending.
"OK, Mom ... when all that happened ... where were your loved ones?"
"Sitting right beside me on the blue couch," I said.
Tonight he lays on the fold out sofa (that isn't blue) and watches me type.
(I SEE you watching me type ... Big One. :)
One day, I want you to remember to use details. Be descriptive in your tales. Things like "blue couch" and "Jack Welch," and "Elmo's World," and "footed pajamas"... Remember the details. USE THEM. Tell others your stories. Details make the stories. Details make you credible. Human.
Because I will never forget that blue couch.
Or where we were that day. Together.
NO surprise.
